As cyber threats continue to reshape the global insurance landscape, professionals like Ercin Mengecin are leading the way in bridging the gap between traditional insurance expertise and emerging cyber risk management with the help of cyber insurance education. “Prior to enrolling in CCIS, I was working as a global insurance professional at an international insurance company, primarily focused on commercial and specialty lines,” he explains. “I realized that to stay ahead, I needed to strengthen my knowledge in both cybersecurity and cyber insurance.”
That motivation, alongside the Cyber Insurance Academy’s Scholarship Program, led him to pursue the Certified Cyber Insurance Specialist (CCIS) Designation, a decision that provided not only in-depth cyber insurance education but also the cybersecurity training needed to confidently navigate today’s evolving risk environment.
Building a Strong Foundation in Cyber Risk with Cyber Insurance Education
The combination of cyber insurance education and cybersecurity training in the CCIS helped Ercin develop a more integrated perspective that connects technical cyber concepts with the realities of risk management, coverage design, and client communication.
“The program provided me with a strong foundation in cybersecurity and deepened my understanding of cyber insurance coverages,” says Ercin. “I gained a solid understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals as well as the key components of cyber insurance, including coverage structures and underwriting risk assessment criteria.”
For Ercin, one of the most impactful parts of the course was learning how underwriters evaluate and quantify cyber risk.
Applying Cyber Insurance Education in a Global Role
After completing his cyber insurance education, Ercin continues to thrive in the global insurance market, now equipped with deeper insight into the fast-evolving world of cyber. “The knowledge gained through the CCIS has significantly enhanced my ability to understand cyber risks, requirements, regulations, and coverage solutions more clearly…It has strengthened my confidence when discussing cyber topics internally and externally and has positively influenced my perspective on the evolving role of cyber within the insurance market.” His ability to translate complex cyber topics into actionable insurance strategies has significantly grown stronger.
Ercin’s story reflects a broader trend: the increasing need for insurance professionals to gain hands-on cybersecurity training and specialized cyber insurance education to stay competitive in a digital-first world. His journey underscores how programs like the CCIS are helping experienced professionals build confidence, credibility, and deeper technical understanding.
