Cyber Insurance Academy Co-Founder and CEO, Guy Simkin, has contributed a new thought leadership article to Global Reinsurance, exploring how AI-enabled cyberattacks are fundamentally reshaping the cyber risk landscape — and putting unprecedented pressure on traditional cyber insurance models.
In the piece, “Has cyber insurance lost the war with AI?”, Simkin examines the shift from AI-assisted attacks to increasingly autonomous, machine-speed intrusion campaigns, and what this means for underwriting assumptions, loss volatility, and the long-term viability of cyber insurance as a risk transfer mechanism. Drawing on recent disclosures around AI-orchestrated espionage campaigns, the article argues that cyber risk is no longer evolving at a pace insurers can comfortably model using historical data alone.
The article calls for a rethinking of cyber insurance frameworks – from static, point-in-time assessments toward more dynamic, continuously informed approaches that reflect the realities of an AI-accelerated threat environment.
