AI Fluency for Cyber Insurance Professionals

Understand how AI works, how it attacks and fails, how it is governed, and where it lands in cyber and liability wordings, so you can ask the right questions of any client. About 6 to 8 hours, self-paced.

What you'll be able to do

Read AI risk the way you already read cyber or liability risk

For underwriters, brokers and claims handlers meeting AI in submissions, wordings and claims before anyone has agreed what it means. This course gives you the vocabulary, the failure modes and the governance standards, so you can ask a client the right questions and read the answers with confidence.

  • Explain AI, machine learning, generative AI and AI agents in plain terms
  • Spot how AI fails on its own and how attackers use and target it
  • Recognise good AI governance, from the EU AI Act to EC-Council's ADG framework
  • Find silent AI in cyber and liability wordings, and read the AI answer on a proposal form
Curriculum

Four modules, about 6 to 8 hours

Self-paced and on demand. A short survey closes each module, a knowledge check follows Modules 1 and 2, and the final assessment at the end earns your certificate of completion.

01 AI, Decoded 6 lessons

The vocabulary, from machine learning to AI agents, without the hype.

  • Define AI and tell it apart from rigid, rule-based software
  • Explain how machine learning and deep learning models ingest and learn from data
  • Describe generative AI and large language models without the hype
  • Recognise an AI agent and break down its four fundamental building blocks
02 How AI Attacks and Fails 8 lessons

The two sides of AI risk, tied to real incidents.

  • Tell inherent AI failures apart from malicious exploitation
  • Identify hallucination, data leakage and the threat of shadow AI
  • Spot deepfakes and AI-assisted phishing
  • Define prompt injection, data poisoning and model theft, each tied to a real incident
03 Governing AI 6 lessons

The rules, the standards, and why governance decides insurability.

  • Place the EU AI Act, ISO 42001 and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework in context
  • Explain why underwriters look for robust AI governance
  • Describe the ADG pillars (Adopt, Defend, Govern) and the staged journey to mature governance
04 AI Meets the Policy 6 lessons

Silent AI across cyber and liability, and the proposal-form question.

  • Explain silent AI and map where it sits across cyber, PI, D&O and GL wordings
  • Describe affirmative AI cover, weighing endorsements against exclusions
  • Apply the AI question on the proposal form to a client's risk profile
Who it's for

For the people meeting AI in the submission before the market has agreed what it means

An intermediate course that assumes you already work in insurance and makes no assumption about your technical background. It builds the vocabulary first, then the failure modes, then the governance, then the wording, so each part rests on the one before it.

Cyber and liability underwriters

You are pricing accounts that have adopted AI faster than they can govern it, and the proposal form barely asks.

Brokers

You are asked what the AI exposure is, and you want an answer that holds up in front of a client.

Claims handlers

You are meeting losses where an AI system made the decision, and the wording never names it.
